Breaking the Silence: Dr. King and the "Beyond Vietnam" Speech
Saturday, 2 pm
Join us for this unique family event featuring an on-stage conversation and audience Q&A with one of the speech’s organizers, Reverend Richard Fernandez, director of the Clergy and Laity Concerned about Vietnam in 1967 and acclaimed author Tonya Bolden (M.L. K.: Journey of a King). Before the conversation, participants will view a clip from the Oscar-nominated documentary series Eyes on the Prize about the American civil rights movement from 1954 to 1985, originally aired on PBS.

We're discussing acclaimed author Russell Freedman's comprehensive look at the war, Vietnam: A History of the War. At the meeting, veterans Herbert Sweat and Barbara Chiminello join us to discuss their experiences and answer questions. After book discussion and Q&A, we'll explore the exhibition and take a look at an item donated by Ms. Chiminello.
