REPORTS TO: Director of Education
The Manager of Education Outreach and Engagement at the New-York Historical Society is responsible for bringing our innovative, dynamic suite of education programs to schools and other organizations throughout New York City and the metropolitan area via program sales and direct marketing.
Drawing on world-renowned collections and a staff of passionate professionals, New-York Historical’s Education Division engages learners of all ages in the study of our collective past to deepen content knowledge, develop 21st century skills, and foster an empowered and engaged citizenry. We believe in the power of authentic historical study to spark curiosity and creativity, to promote cultural understanding, and to strengthen our democracy. The Manager of Education Outreach and Engagement will play a critical role in this work by expanding our network and ensuring that more New York City students and teachers have the opportunity to engage with our programming.
The ideal candidate will be a purpose-driven sales and marketing professional who has a passion for providing schools with high-quality, high-impact learning experiences. The Manager of Education Outreach and Engagement serves as the New-York Historical Education brand ambassador, sells education programs for students and teachers to a broad audience, manages the development of all marketing materials, and cultivates relationships with school/educational partners. This person will build a strong network of contacts within the New York City public school system, as well as in the city’s many private schools, and build a broad audience for educational programming.
Bachelor’s Degree required. MBA/MPA a plus.
- 5+ years of sales/marketing experience, preferably in an education, child-focused, or social entrepreneurship setting
- Proven track record in setting and delivering sales goals via robust planning processes (e.g., sourcing, pipeline, forecasting, sales mix)
- Experience creating strategic marketing plans and brand-building tools that complement sales plans and help establish N-YHS brand positioning and brand experience across all touchpoints
- Proven experience cultivating relationships across organizations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience writing copy for brochures, e-mails, and other widely distributed marketing materials
- Superior customer service skills
- Ability to think creatively and problem solve
- A self-starter with the ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Must be highly organized and detail oriented
- Ability to set and meet deadlines
- Experience working within or in partnership with the New York City Department of Education a plus
- Knowledge of MailChimp or similar online marketing platforms a plus
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Responsibilities for this position include but may not be limited to:
- Create and execute a multi-year sales and marketing plan to expand reach of New-York Historical Society programs (school, teacher, and teen); plan must deliver growth targets by focusing on schools and other educational organizations throughout the NYC area, and by establishing direct contact with key influencers and buyers (administrators, teachers, parents, and other representatives)
- Create accurate financial and attendance projections and track and report on progress toward stated goals throughout the year
- Work with Department leadership to develop a position strategy, and manage the development and distribution of departmental marketing collateral, including brochures, flyers, webpages, and emails
- Create and maintain year-long marketing calendar, ensure campaigns are enticing and sent on time
- Collaborate with Education Division staff in school, teacher, and teen program teams to ensure program-specific reach and sales goals are met and to create a seamless transition from sale to program delivery
- Participate in and coordinate the Division’s presence at vendor fairs, partnership events, and conferences; organize and execute cultivation events
- Assist in troubleshooting/problem solving with school partners on an as-needed basis
- Provide support for Division-wide special events
- Some early morning, evening, and weekend work will be required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee with or without accommodation, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This is largely a sedentary role using a phone and computer; however, travel around New York City, public speaking, and filing is required. This would require the ability to climb stairs, lift boxes, and stand and speak for extended periods of time as well as lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stoop as necessary.
