Event Details

In collaboration with the New-York Historical Society, the Bryant Park Reading Room presents a series of free lectures on popular topics including the Supreme Court, the Cold War, presidential biography, and more.

Eleanor Roosevelt, the American icon of international reverence, faced many challenges in her personal life and had a frigid relationship with most of her family—including her husband, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. In spite of these difficulties, she was remembered warmly by her friends and is widely lauded for her humanitarian work and public advocacy for human rights. Author Eric Burns illuminates the relationship Roosevelt had with her father Elliot—the ill-fated brother of Theodore Roosevelt—and how that relationship influenced her life and leadership.

Eric Burns, author of Someone to Watch Over Me: A Portrait of Eleanor Roosevelt and the Tortured Father Who Shaped Her Life, is a former host of Fox News Watch and a former NBC News correspondent and Today Show pundit.
